Open Call for Artists and Performers

The award-winning Smashing Times have a number of exciting arts-based projects, performances and films coming up over the next two years. We are conducting an open call for artists to join our Panel of Artists from which we will cast our work. We are currently casting for a number of projects, including

1. Cabaret Performance – actors, singers, dancers, musicians. Paid positions.

Performers required to be available and commit to the following dates:

Rehearsals: Availability required from 28 September to 15 October

Performances include Samuel Beckett Theatre: 16-20 October 2020 for the Dublin Arts and Human Rights Festival

2. Acting for the Future – actors (male playing ages 18-30). Paid positions.

Performers required to be available and commit to the following dates:

Rehearsals: Week of 9 March

Performances on 23, 24, 30, 31 March (day and evening) plus other dates.

3. Winter Solstice Celebration Festival – actors, storytellers, singers, dancers, musicians, street artists. Paid positions.

Performers required for 21 December 2020 performance date and for rehearsals in December 2020.

Performers are required to have a knowledge of or training in the relevant artform; a minimum of 2 years professional performance experience and / or proven ability and training in the area of your artform; an ability to work collaboratively including in the creation of devising and new work; experience of or interest in taking part in workshops and panel discussions; and an interest in working through the arts to promote equality, rights, values, human rights etc. Ideally actors have a knowledge and/or experience of the Stanislavski System of Actor training and/or Theatre of the Oppressed.

Applicants need to be available for the following dates/times for auditions: Thursday 27 February from 10am.

Closing dates for applications is Wednesday 19 February, 5pm. Late applications will not be reviewed. Successful candidates will be informed on Monday 24 February.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a meeting and audition with two or more directors including Mary Moynihan and Dr Eric Weitz. The auditions take place on Thursday 27 February, from 10am.

Smashing Times – About Us

The Smashing Times International Centre for the Arts and Equality, incorporating Smashing Times Theatre and Film Company and Smashing Times Youth Arts Ensemble, is an award-winning international organisation working with artists and communities to create collaborative art practice in local, national, European and international settings. Our mission is to lead the development of the arts to promote equality and to connect citizens to the promotion, study and practice of the arts, human rights, climate justice and gender equality.

Led by Director Mary Moynihan and producer Freda Manweiler, the centre produces an annual inter-disciplinary arts programme. All artistic mediums are supported with a focus on the performing and collaborative arts including theatre, film, visual arts, dance and music. Core services consist of membership, resources, advice and the implementation of a range of innovative projects promoting professional and collaborative arts practice and a youth arts Ensemble. The centre promotes membership, networking, training, mentoring, guidance, support and advocacy in relation to using high quality creative processes, collaborative arts practice, research and new digital technologies to promote equality and human rights for all.
